Words To Live By

I am currently working on an office to start my life coaching business and I needed some things for the walls. I created a few paintings with the following quotes on them. Each of these quotes hold a dear and important reminder to me personally and what better way to share my favorites than to put them on a wall that others can see. (On a blog is good too.) I hope that these quotes encourage, motivate and spark some tenacity for life in you today!!!

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”     - Melody Beattie

If you have not heard of Melody Beattie, check her out she has overcome so many obstacles in her personal life. I can relate to her in many ways. To hear her story and then read this quote again…… it will amaze you. Some people are born with the ability to conquer and succeed, this woman is incredible. When we are thankful, we are full. I love my job, my husband, the life that I live each day and therefore I have absolutely everything that I could ever need in life!

“If you can’t fly, then run, if you can’t run, then walk, if you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”     – Martin Luther King Jr.

Of course I had to post this quote by the great Martin Luther King Jr. no matter how hard things get and how low you feel, you are always capable of growth, change and success. Keep working on the things that need work, sharpening your talents and perfecting your skills!

“We all make mistakes, have struggles and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here now with with the power to shape your day and your future.”     – Steve Maraboli

This quote I believe can speak to every person on the planet. We all go through trials and opportunities. Many times I feel that we easily identify ourselves with our past, our shortcomings and even regrets. You can change your life and you only need to be concerned with your present and future. Our past molds, shapes and yes, even has the capability to break us but you can learn from your past and change your future or you can use your past to blame everything wrong with your present and future. Believe me, the first choice is much better for you. I’m sure you have all heard “Carpe Diem” (Seize the Day) but another version is “Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero” meaning, “Seize the day, put very little trust in tomorrow (the future).” I take this to mean live each day fully, you are not guaranteed another day of life. Don’t life with regrets, don’t live in your mistakes or your past. Create a life that you have dreamed of, you are able to make a new life for yourself. I am living proof of that. I went from a unhealthy marriage, a job that was not good for me and health issues that were starting to manifest in my day to day life. I got a divorce, saved enough money to quit my job, starting taking better care of my body and moved to another state. It wasn’t easy, in fact it was scary and very unknown but I wouldn’t take back a single thing that I did because it got me to where I am now.

Success Is: Knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your maximum potential and sowing seeds that benefit others.     – John Maxwell

Success, there are so many examples of what success is but this perfectly sums up my views on what it amounts to. It is not a destination or an end point but rather a continuos growth and learning. We all must find what are purpose is and work on that one thing until we are living it out each day. A study showed that two thirds of the human population do not know their purpose. How horrible would it be to die without knowing why you were born and what you were created to do in the world. I don’t have everything figured out yet but what I do know is that I want to help others. I want to be able to use my good and hard experiences in life to help others through their’s.

“Before I can live with other folks I’ve got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience.”

 – Atticus Finch

Whatever you do in your life, do it well and with all your heart. Don’t get wrapped up in what others think about you or what they want from you. Do what fits you and become the person you are proud of. Be the kind of person that your younger self would admire. No matter what others do, say or think, you have to be able to live with yourself. The one time that I feel we can truly understand the person we have become is when we are all alone because there is no acting, no masks, no bragging or fake smiles. We are truly ourselves when we have no pressure to perform. Character is said to be defined by what we do when we think no one is looking. Do you like who you are when you are by yourself?

“All the great things are simple and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hopes.”     – Winston Churchill

I have used this quote for a note after my signature on my emails because it really speaks to me. We can so easily complicate our lives but truly the most important things are simple. I can’t add to this one because it is put so well please take what you want out of this quote it has helped to refocus me when I think things get tough or busy but really life is simple filled with lots of little distractions. Keep your course and don’t lose sight of the straightforward.

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”     – Albus Dumbledore

Honesty alert: I have one of the widest ranges of taste is movies and music etc. I love and grew up on black and white movies, can’t pass up on a good action film and yet I can’t help but love Harry Potter movies. This quote from a Harry Potter movie has opened my eyes to the balances in life. You have to dream to be able to find your purpose and actually chase it, at the same time you can’t live a life of dreams without reality and the grind. Balance your dreams with your actions. I have put about 6 months into planning on life coaching lots of gathering of information, researching classes to take and what it would like in 5 years time. Then I have the grind, starting a blog, getting an office to work from, investing time and money into making it my own and creating business cards. Keep dreaming in the clouds but keep your feet planted in the reality that you have to take action too.

“For what it’s worth: It’s never too late to be whoever you
want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start
over.”     - F. Scott Fitzgerald

I’ve got to say this quote hits home for me. All the changes in my life were simply because I wasn’t living the life I wanted, I wasn’t proud of it and I wasn’t who I wanted to be. So if you feel you are on track, keep on going. If you are lost and unhappy with where you are it truly is a great time to start again. At the age of 23 years old I started all over again. You can too. Write out the things you don’t like and next to it write out what you need instead. Work on the things that need change you can take control of your life that changes the course of your future!

“The graveyard is the richest place on earth because it is there that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dream.”    – Les Brown

Please look up Les Brown on Youtube. He has some incredible motivational videos. I just watched one this morning and I have yet to be unmoved and unmotivated by something he says. If you were to die today what dream, idea, invention or gift would die with you. What would you rob this world of? Do yourself a favor, myself and the world, get working on the things that you need to give this world. It is not too late to start something new. Find resources, ask questions, research, study, test, create and share. Don’t let one more day go by without working on your passion. Wake up early and give yourself even one hour of time to start working and creating, making your hopes and dreams a reality.
