Snowy Days and Good Movies

January 7th, 2018

This blog post comes a day late because my husband and I were traveling home yesterday from California.

Snow days are one of the best things that happen in our town during the winter. We live in a high desert area and we tend to get lots of snowfall during the colder months. My husband and I waited with great anticipation for the snow to fly. Last year we ended up with 13 inches in 24 hours that included 4-5 feet drifts. We own a quad that we like to take out in the snow and plow our business properties and any other places that might need a little helped getting unburied. Living in a mining town has many interesting aspects, one of them being the town keeps early and late hours. We open our store at 4am and there is usually a line of people ready to pump fuel and grab a coffee on their way to work. Knowing that information you can understand why my husband and I will climb out of bed at 3am bundle up in our snow gear head to toe and hop on our quad to go plowing. We do have wonderful people that work for our town but they start by plowing the main roads so that traffic can get to and from work. We like to work on our businesses and families properties. It is something that we truly look forward to all year. Currently we haven’t had snow this winter but we are extremely hopeful for some soon, at this moment it is raining outside and if it drops a few degrees we might just get our wish.

If there isn’t enough to plow on a snowy day the next best thing is a good movie cuddled on the couch with a warm fire burning. I have an amazingly wide range of movie genres that I enjoy. Some of my favorites are the classic black and whites, To Kill A Mockingbird is my all time favorite movie. My favorite movie genres have to be action or thrillers like, We Were Soldiers, Saving Private Ryan or Alfred Hitchcock movies and Tom Clancy’s novels that were made into movies. (Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games for starters.) I will never be too old to watch the latest Pixar or Disney movie, I love the innocence in them and the cute adventure. When times are a little more difficult I make myself watch a comedy, you might think that I comedy would be hard to watch if you are having a hard day and you would be 100% correct. That is why I make myself watch something funny, it gets me out of my bad day and gives me a good laugh. You can’t go wrong with My Cousin Vinny or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels those are always going to make me laugh. (For a black and white comedy watch The Awful Truth with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne it truly is a movie that was ahead of its time.

We all love to binge watch some TV or movies and I love to watch few movies back to back on a relaxing snowy day when I can just stay home and take it easy. My favorites to watch together are, Harry Potter, anything Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie’s Poirot The Thin Man movies, Batman cartoons,  Indiana Jones, The Bourne series or John Wayne westerns. I love them all!!!

These two days of snow and movies might seem silly to list as things that I appreciate but the fact is I do. We have a fast paced life traveling or doing projects and I love to have some down time. Being business owners not many people understand that when you get home you are working quite a bit, paying bills, sending invoices, making calls, ordering supplies, providing customer service, etc. I love what I do and I wouldn’t change it for the world but I have learned to take advantage of the days that I have free to relax. Few things are as peaceful and tranquil than a day at home watching a movie and taking it easy. What movies do you like to watch on a cozy day at home?
