Happy 4th of July. I know this is now the 8th but as I celebrated this Independence Day on Wednesday I took time to reflect on the things that I usually take for granted. I made a conscious effort to be thankful for several of my everyday liberties. I am amazed at my country, we are a young nation but it blesses my heart to have so many freedoms that I get to enjoy.
As an American citizen I have the opportunity to life, liberty and to pursue happiness. I am not born into a world that is sure to give me everything that I want. I am not owed happiness, I do have a very good chance of happiness because of the time and place that I live in though. As many movies say, “America, the land of opportunity.” my place of birth is full of options, choices and decisions that are just waiting for me. I am so very blessed to live in America. I will never take that for granted.
This 4th of July in America I am thankful for my freedom to speak my mind. I not only have free speech but as a female I have a voice and a vote. I have equal opportunity, the same as everyone else around me. My country is born out of a desire for Freedom and Liberty, that I get to live out every single day. Though many may say that all people are not able to pursue dreams equally, I would have to disagree. We all have the same options to chase our passions, goals and desires the only difference is that some of us may have to work harder than others to accomplish all the things that we want out of life. A woman may have to work harder than a man at being a stronger laborer. A man may have to work harder than a woman at being a detailed editor. A person with a specific ethnicity may have to work harder in an English class. Another person will have to work harder than a bilingual person at becoming an interpreter. One thing is true though, we each have that opportunity right in front of us we just have to decide if it is worth the work to achieve it. All the great stories of incredible people start with a challenge, an opportunity and an incredible tenacity for accomplishment.
I am thankful for the Incredible Country that I live in. I truly appreciate that the sky is really the limit and I am in charge of my future and what I want to make of my life. I do not have to be a stay at home mom. I do not have to work as an assistant in an office. I am not put into a role or a box because of my gender, belief, my status or my background. I can be a CEO of my own company. I am able to become the next President of The United States. We Americans are all equally capable of making our dreams a reality and we are able to dream bigger and bolder than we ever have before. Thanks to our Founding Fathers dreams for a better life and one that is full of freedom we are carrying on the tradition hundreds of years later. The tradition of change, of courage and of the belief that we are all equally capable of making life better and that we have the right and even the obligation to chase only the deepest and craziest of our dreams. They say the sky is the limit, but I think that the sky is just the beginning.
